Blaze Green is a saxophonist whose musical journey began at the age of six, developing within a rich classical environment shaped by her mother’s career as a professional flautist and pianist. Early exposure to classical and Baroque repertoire fostered a strong technical foundation, stylistic awareness and a deep commitment to musical integrity that continues to inform Blaze’s performance practice.
From a young age, Blaze demonstrated notable promise, achieving success in competitive and performance settings. Highlights include winning first prize at the Mid-Somerset Festival and her secondary school’s Young Musician of the Year Competition in March 2020, and multiple invitations to perform in ABRSM High Scorers’ Concerts. Blaze progressed rapidly through the ABRSM examinations, achieving Grade 8 on soprano saxophone with Distinction before passing the ARSM Diploma with Distinction in 2019 at the age of fifteen, six months later. Additional qualifications include ABRSM Grade 8 Classical Voice (Merit, 2022), ABRSM Grade 7 Music Theory (Distinction, 2022) and A Level Music (A, 2022).
At sixteen, Blaze was accepted onto the Junior Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama programme, a formative experience that confirmed her ambition to pursue a professional performance career on the saxophone. During this time, Blaze became a Young Sounds Award recipient and later a Young Sounds Alumni, continuing to engage with alumni events both online and in London. Alongside her studies, Blaze established a teaching practice during the COVID-19 lockdown, delivering online tuition in saxophone, flute and piano, and now teaches in person at the South Leeds Music Centre.
Blaze completed a BA in Music at the University of York, where she broadened her artistic profile through orchestral, chamber, solo and contemporary performance. She performed as first saxophone with the University Symphony Orchestra, gave regular recital performances, and collaborated on recording projects with composers, artists and Masters Music Technology students, including Us & the Wind and Fleur! by Lady Liv. Participation in the London Sinfonietta contemporary music masterclass in February 2024 further developed Blaze’s interest in new music and collaborative performance. Her final-year extended recital was awarded a First, reflecting both technical command and growing artistic maturity. Blaze continues to develop her artistic voice through performance, collaboration and ongoing professional training, starting her Masters Degree in Saxophone Performance in September 2026 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama as a Scholar student.
